Guest categories and tags
Both categories and tags group guests, but they answer different questions. Categories tell HotelBee what to charge and how to count occupancy; tags tell you and your team how to treat the guest. Get categories right once and forget about them. Use tags as a living, evolving classification of your guest base.
Guest categories
Backoffice → Guest Categories → +. Each category needs a name, a from age, an optional to age, and a description. Standard hospitality setup:
- Adult — from 18, no upper bound. Pays full rate.
- Child — from 3 to 17. Often 50% of adult or a flat per-night supplement.
- Infant — from 0 to 2. Almost always free in the parents' bed; counted separately for breakfast and tax purposes.
Open a rate plan and you'll see a per-category price grid where the categories above become rows. Reservations record headcount per category, which feeds occupancy reports and breakfast counts.

Tags
Backoffice → Tags → +. A tag has a name, description, and color. Color helps the front desk spot key tags at a glance: red for allergies, gold for VIP, pink for honeymoon. Common patterns:
- Loyalty — VIP, Repeat-Guest, Influencer.
- Health — Allergic-Nuts, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Wheelchair.
- Occasion — Honeymoon, Anniversary, Birthday.
- Preferences — NoSmoking, HighFloor, QuietRoom, EarlyCheckin.
- Source — Corporate, OTA-VCC, DirectBooking-Newsletter (when you want the tag visible alongside reservation source).
