How to transfer an order between tables
Tables move — restaurant guests want a window seat that just opened, a couple becomes a four-top, the bar party migrates to a booth. The move-table action keeps the order intact while updating the assignment so the floor plan stays accurate.
Doing the move
- Open the order — from the table view, tap the table; from the order list, tap the order.
- Find the move-table action in the order's action menu (icon: arrows-right or 'move table' label, depending on layout).
- A picker shows available tables. Select the destination.
- Confirm. The order's table updates immediately. The floor plan / table view reflects the change — old table frees up, new table shows occupied.
Prerequisite — POS Point setting
POS → POS Points → open the POS Point → tablesMoveEnabled toggle. Off by default in some setups (especially POS Points without tables, like a quick-service counter where the action makes no sense). Toggle on for restaurants, bars, and any POS Point with a table layout.
What changes and what doesn't
- Changes: the table number (tableId) on the order; floor-plan view updates.
- Doesn't change: products, prices, notes, payments, the waiter assigned, the customer linked.
- Doesn't re-fire: kitchen tickets already sent. Kitchen still sees the original table number on those.
Common scenarios
- Window seat opens — guest at table 12 asks for table 7 (window). Move the order to 7; 12 is now free for the next party.
- Party expands — couple at table 5 becomes a four-top with friends arriving. Move them to a larger table (8); update the guest count too.
- Section closes — terrace closes for weather. Consolidate all open orders to indoor tables one by one. Print the table-move log if needed for your records.
- Wrong table tagged at order — waiter rang up table 14 by mistake; really table 4. Quick move-table fixes it; no need to void and re-enter.
