How to enable live order printing
If your kitchen printer is not always next to the device taking orders, Live Order Printing closes the loop — the kitchen sees the order on its own printer the moment it's sent, with no waiter walking over and tapping print.
Step 1 — Prerequisites
- QZ Tray installed and running on the device that will host Live Orders Printing.
- POS Points configured with print options (silent or silent_to_printer for true auto-print).
- POS Places configured if you want kitchen tickets routed (otherwise only fiscal/non-fiscal receipts print).
- POS Points have liveOrderPrintingEnabled toggled on (per-pospoint flag in the POS Point form).
Step 2 — Open the Live Orders Printing page
POS → POS Points → Live Orders Printing (separate page in the menu). The page shows checkboxes for every POS Point — tick the ones this device should listen for. Selection is remembered in browser localStorage so reopening the page restores the selection.
Step 3 — Leave it open
Don't close the tab. The page maintains a live subscription to new orders — closing the tab kills the subscription, no more auto-prints. Common setup: dedicated mini-PC at the kitchen pass, browser locked to fullscreen on this page, screen off (or covered) so staff don't navigate away accidentally.
Step 4 — Test
From a separate device, take a test order at one of the ticked POS Points and close it. Within seconds, the kitchen ticket and/or fiscal receipt should print on the device hosting Live Orders Printing. If nothing happens, check: (1) the POS Point is ticked on the page, (2) QZ Tray is running, (3) the print options on the POS Point are silent or silent_to_printer, (4) the destination printer is online.
Common patterns
- Kitchen-only device — mini-PC at the pass with Live Orders Printing on, ticked for all POS Points that send food. Kitchen tickets print automatically as waiters fire orders.
- Bar dedicated — separate Live Orders Printing instance at the bar, ticked only for POS Points whose POS Places include Bar. Bartender doesn't see hot-kitchen tickets cluttering the bar printer.
- Cashier station — the cashier's terminal also opens Live Orders Printing for the fiscal receipt category, scoped to its own POS Point. As waiters close out tabs from the floor, the cashier's printer produces the fiscal copy automatically.
