Our story

It started with one guesthouse in north Albania.

In 2017 the team was running a small guesthouse in the mountains of north Albania. Reservations came in by phone, by Booking.com, by a friend's recommendation. The "system" was a paper diary, three browser tabs, and a spreadsheet that someone overwrote at least once a season. Every Sunday morning we reconciled by hand what should have been a single source of truth.

We tried the international PMS options. They were either too expensive for a 12-room property, too complex for a small team, or built for chains in a way that ignored Albanian fiscal rules entirely. So we built our own. First for ourselves, then for the guesthouse next door, then for a hotel in Tirana that asked if we sold the thing we had quietly built.

The platform we ship today is a direct descendant of that original tool. The front desk, restaurant, channels, payments and (soon) AI share one database; pricing scales with the number of rooms instead of the number of feature flags; and the team that writes the code still answers the support inbox. That last part is on purpose.

    Hotels run on us 24/7. We optimise for predictable, calm software, never for clever or trendy.

  • Craft over quantity

    We will throw away a feature rather than ship a half-done one. Slow on purpose is fast in practice.

  • Small team, real ownership

    Forty people. No layers, no committees. Every full-time hire holds equity from day one.

  • Independent at heart

    We will not be acquired into a chain stack. Independent hospitality is the customer we build for, forever.

Milestones

A few moments along the way.

  1. 2017

    A guesthouse in north Albania

    The original problem: a 12-room mountain guesthouse, a paper diary, and Sunday-morning reconciliations. The first version of HotelBee was a spreadsheet replacement built in our own back office.

  2. 2021

    First paying properties

    A handful of properties around Tirana asked if we sold the tool we had built for ourselves. The answer turned into a product.

  3. 2022

    POS, Payments and Fiscalization

    Point-of-sale, integrated payments and native eFiskalizimi all launch. NIVF/NSLF on every receipt, QR codes, instant transmission to DPT. Restaurants and bar outlets join the platform alongside hotels, sharing the same database.

  4. 2023

    Inventory and Booking Engine

    Stock and ingredient inventory ships for restaurants and bars. The commission-free booking engine goes live, giving properties a direct-booking channel that lives in the same database as the PMS.

  5. 2025

    Events and Subscriptions

    Two new modules: an events module for venues and group bookings, and a subscription module for recurring stays, memberships and long-stay billing.

  6. 2026

    HotelBee Payments and Bee AI

    HotelBee Payments launches as our own end-to-end payment processor, replacing the third-party gateway with native acquiring. The first hospitality-trained AI capability enters private development the same year; reply drafting and rate suggestions are first.

What we will not do

A short list of no's.

  • No outbound spam

    We do not buy lead lists, we do not run cold-call campaigns, and we do not chase you after a demo. If you walk away, you walk away.

  • No chain lock-in

    We will not build chain-only features that lock in independents. If the chains want what we have, they get the same product as everyone else.

  • No vanity awards

    We do not pay for trade awards, top-50 lists, or sponsored badges. The only metric that matters is whether properties renew next year.

  • No closed APIs

    Every feature in HotelBee is exposed in our public API. If we use it internally, you get it too, and that is a hard rule, not a roadmap item.
