Housekeeping overview
Housekeeping is the room-readiness layer of HotelBee — a board that tells the team which rooms need turnover, which are ready to sell, and which are off the market. This article maps the six statuses, the workflow, and the assignment model.
The six statuses
- Clean (green) — turnover finished. Awaiting supervisor sign-off if your workflow uses inspection.
- Inspected (purple) — verified, ready for guest arrival.
- Dirty (red) — guest checked out. Top of the housekeeping queue.
- Occupied (blue) — guest in-house. No turnover needed.
- Room Service (yellow) — cleaner is in the room while the guest is in-house. Used during stay-over service so other staff don't disturb.
- Out of Order (grey) — unsellable: maintenance, deep clean, damage, refurb. Removed from booking engine availability.
Daily flow
- Morning — head housekeeper opens the board, scans the red (Dirty) and yellow (Room Service) rooms, assigns them to the team. The Housekeeping Report (Reports module) gives the same data on a printable sheet for paper teams.
- Mid-shift — cleaners tap their assigned rooms from Dirty → Clean as they finish. The supervisor walks through and taps Clean → Inspected to authorize for sale.
- Front desk — assigns Inspected rooms (or Clean, if your workflow skips inspection) to arriving guests. The check-in flips them to Occupied automatically.
- End of stay — check-out flips Occupied → Dirty. Cycle repeats.
Out of Order — when to use it
Use Out of Order for any room that can't be sold — maintenance issues, deep cleaning between long-term guests, refurb. The room disappears from booking engine availability and won't be auto-assigned to arrivals. When it's back, set the status to Clean. For anticipated unavailability tied to specific dates (e.g., a renovation week affecting many rooms), use Sales Blocks instead — see the article on blocked rooms.
